FAQs
What is the Watch Obsession – Citizen Education Program?

A grassroots movement has started in the United States. Problems related to National Security, the middle-east, Israel and radical Islam are serious concerns for all Americans, including Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Christians, Jews and moderate Muslims. Average citizens are involved in a grassroots program to distribute millions of copies of the award-winning documentary, Obsession, Radical Islam’s War Against the West, to their friends, neighbors, leaders and others. Obsession is the primary instructive tool to wake up and educate Americans about complex national and global security issues. The goal of concerned citizens is to get all of America to - WATCH OBSESSION!

Isn’t Obsession an “old” movie?

No, “Gone With the Wind” is an old movie, but still a great one! Obsession was independently released about two years ago and due to the coverage it received on CNN and Fox News has been seen by 20 million Americans. But, there are still 300 million Americans that have not had the opportunity to – Watch Obsession.

Why have you selected Obsession as THE movie to use on the issue of National Security?

Personally speaking, I have not seen any educational “tool” with the teaching power, in 30 or 60 minutes, that is contained in Obsession. Over the past two years, I have shown the movie to thousands of people of every persuasion, Christians, Jews, Muslims, atheists, in every type of setting, Churches, Synagogues, clubs, homes, and I continue to be amazed at the way in which this documentary can inform an intellectually honest person as to the seriousness of radical Islam and the need to get involved in making America more secure.

How are you going to distribute millions of Obsession DVD’s?

One at a time! This is not an easy task, but any program of serious intrinsic value has its difficulties. Our plan is to utilize our extensive grassroots contacts, through other groups and coalitions that focus on national security to literally go door-to-door and have friends and neighbors asking their friends and neighbors to - Watch Obsession. In addition, we will use more traditional methodologies of home delivery, and of course, we have a few surprises on the drawing board. Wait and see!

OK…Who’s paying for all this?

Ah…that’s always the question everyone wants to know and it’s a fair question. Since Obsession originally was released, not only have millions of people seen the movie, but thousands of people have donated to the organization, The Clarion Fund, that produced the movie, so that this type of educational work can continue. In fact The Clarion Fund has just completed the second movie in the War For The Free World series of films and that new movie is entitled – The Third Jihad.

Keep watching for the Fall release of this powerful companion documentary to Obsession.

What is the Clarion Fund?

The Clarion Fund is an organization dedicated to educating on the issue of radical Islam. They fund high profile documentaries and websites, to help Americans understand the realities of the situation, particularly as it relates to national security for America -- a reality the mainstream media is not adequately conveying.

What is the relationship of the Clarion Fund to the Watch Obsession - Educational Campaign?

The Clarion Fund is a non-profit organization that raises money to make movies and other educational tools. In fact, it is the Clarion Fund that is formally distributing the millions of Obsession DVD’s all over America. The Watch Obsession Campaign is a separate group, headed by Tom Trento (Director, Florida Security Council) that is maximizing the distribution of these DVD’s so that we can actually get millions of Americans to – Watch Obsession. The Watch Obsession Campaign is growing daily as more pro-American, anti-radical Islamist organizations get involved to encourage all Americans to - Watch Obsession!

How do I get involved?

Glad you asked! Just fill out our SIGN UP NOW! form on our Home Page.

Part of the reasoning and logic behind this Watch Obsession Campaign is the effectiveness of the movie to wake up people to the reality of our situation. America is at war, the West is at war and circumstances will get worse before they get better. Once people realize the seriousness of the moment, they want to know more, become interested in finding solutions and voting for those elected officials who understand the dangers of radical, militant Islam. If you decide to GET INVOLVED you are truly participating in an amazing Citizen Education program that will have a powerful impact in determining the direction of America and the West. Imagine - Americans all over the United States getting copies of Obsession delivered to their homes, they Watch Obsession, then begin doing research about how their Representatives voted on national security concerns and then these Americans cast their votes in light of all the information that you helped provide. The Watch Obsession Program is the essence of a participatory, constitutional democracy. You can be proud of this program and your role in its implementation!

HERE ARE SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE MOVIE
“OBSESSION, RADICAL ISLAM’S WAR AGAINST THE WEST”

Is there really a war going on?

Absolutely, as far the radicals are concerned. When we interviewed Daniel Pipes and Caroline Glick, they both said the same thing: It’s a world war. It’s hard for us to recognize, because it’s not like WWII, or other conflicts, with armies going head to head against one another. A lot of what’s going on is much more insidious. And we’re not at all accustomed to the tactics. We’re not accustomed to an enemy that’s scattered everywhere. So, yes, it is a global conflict. It is a war. It’s just not like any we’ve encountered before.

Why does this story need to be told?

People need to be woken up to the threat. Radical Islamist violence is rising every year. Bernard Lewis said that Europe will be Islamic by the end of the century. Why is that? Why the transformation? (Leaving politics, and the European-Arab Dialogue and similar threads aside) for years and years, people have not stood up what for what they believed. Ie: for the core values of their civilization. (Assuming they’ve taken the time to question what those values are, and why they’re important). The Islamists have.

Are you suggesting we need to stand up to Radical Muslims because of their beliefs?

We need to stand up for what we believe. Understandably, we don’t want to be intolerant. We’ve seen what happened in Europe and America, with the hatred and prejudice that came from one group claiming to be superior to everyone else, going back to the Crusades and the Inquisition, to slavery and Jim Crow. But, in our struggle to be respectful for different cultures, it’s almost as if we’ve confused multi-culturalism with basic morality. If we don’t stand up for what we believe, in the face of a group of people who are very committed to what they believe, we’ll lose them. Hitler almost succeeded. Imagine what the world would look like today if the Nazis had won. Really think about that for a minute. These guys are well on their way. We hope the film will inspire people to spend some time thinking about their beliefs, and commit to them, and fight for them.

Is there really a crisis?

When we see material in over 80 percent of the Saudi-funded mosques in the United States teaching hatred of Christian and Jews, when we see a generation of children being taught that violent jihad will help solve the world’s problems, it’s reasonable to say there’s a crisis. Daniel Pipes has said that an estimated 10-15 percent of Muslims around the world are Radical. That’s well over 150 million. And the numbers are growing. The Iranians are serious when they say that when they get nuclear weapons, they will use them against Israel, and distribute the technology to others. And this is less than two years away, by most estimates. If Al-Qaeda acquires these weapons, they will use them.

Are you anti-Muslim?

We are not anti-Muslim. I think most Muslims share many of our values, and hate what they see going on around them as much as we do. What we are against is the indoctrination, being promulgated by the Radical element that is brainwashing many people in the Islamic world to hate. We are against the indoctrination that is inciting many of the people in the Islamic world to destroy us. We are against the radical Islamists who want to impose their violent, oppressive world view, with little value for life and the manifold pleasures within.

What are you hoping people will walk away with, after they see this film?

We’re hoping they’ll spend some serious time thinking about what are the values that are important to them, and why are they important. We’re also hoping people will speak out against what’s happening. But the biggest defense against something like this, because of the ways it’s infiltrating our various societies, is to stand strong, and be as proud of our heritage, as they are of theirs. We should be equally as zealous as a suicide bomber, to choose to live a life of truth and meaning. We want people to walk away from the film knowing that sometimes you can stand up and say there is a right and a wrong, and that’s okay, and you’re not being intolerant or narrow-minded.

The film only focuses on religion as what motivates radical Muslims, while totally ignoring US foreign policy’s role.

Obsession does not blame terrorism on Islam. Rather, the film explores the justification that terrorists themselves give for their actions.

Many reasons are cited for the formation of the modern day radical Islamic movement. Among them are Western foreign policy, Arab leaders using hate-mongering to advance their political clout, and oppression and poverty. The most significant motivating factor, however, is a religious ideology.

Islamic fundamentalists believe that they need to save their countries and their fellow Muslims from the immorality and evil of the West. Suicide bombers act in the name of Allah, as clearly documented in suicide videos left behind by the bombers. Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad, who is slowly purging his country of Western influences, openly encourages 'martyrdom,' and is obsessed with the coming of the Messiah. Terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, and Islamic Jihad have all couched their rhetoric in religious ideology. Preachers in mosques have incited their followers to violence based on the religious idea that the West is the seat of immorality and physical excess—not the political idea that the West needs to change its foreign policy.

Regardless of the motivating factor, terrorism is never justified. It is perfectly acceptable to disagree with US foreign policy, but violence against civilians - such as crashing airplanes into the World Trade Center - is never an appropriate way to express that frustration. Terrorism is neither acceptable, nor is it a solution to this conflict.

Just like the film shows that radical Islam teaches hatred, we are also teaching hatred of Muslims by showing this film.

As the film stresses more than once, most Muslims do not subscribe to the violent and anti-Western elements that exist in radical Islam. Moderate Muslims are speaking out against radical Islam in greater numbers than ever before. Obsession will hopefully inspire moderate members of all faiths to unify in their shared belief in freedom, as opposed to create or aggravate divisions.

It’s important to realize that moderate Muslims are just as endangered by radical Islam as non-Muslims are. It is their duty to speak out against radicalism, and Obsession serves as a tool for them.

The US is also using terrorism, Israel is also using terrorism.

Terrorism, by definition, involves the targeting of civilians. While civilian casualties sometimes result from military initiatives - and this is unfortunate - this is not their goal.

To discuss and compare terrorist activities, we must first define terrorism. Unfortunately, there is no internationally-accepted definition of terrorism. The United Nations has struggled with the issue of definition since the 1970s. The discussions on this issue have suffered because of Arab countries’ desire to protect Palestinian suicide bombers, and also because countries that support violence, like Iran, Cuba and North Korea, are allowed to participate in the discussions. Even between Europe and the United States there is some disagreement on what constitutes terrorism. Academics have provided various definitions: Dr Boaz Ganor of the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzilya defines it as “political violence aimed at civilians.”

Putting definitions aside, terrorism, in its most basic form, is an act of violence against civilians with the objective of terrifying. A UN-issued report from 2006 defines terrorism as an act "intended to cause death or serious bodily harm to civilians or non-combatants with the purpose of intimidating a population or compelling a government or an international organization to do or abstain from doing any act." According to this definition, what distinguishes the US and Israel from groups like Hezbollah and Al-Qaeda, is the deliberate and indiscriminate use of violence which targets civilians specifically. Israeli and US soldiers are not entering cafes in downtown areas and blowing themselves up amid innocent men, women, and children.

People are walking away from Obsession thinking “Now we need to kill all Muslims.” How can we get people to react properly to Obsession?

One of the root causes of radical Islamic terror is hatred. The desire to “kill all Muslims” just forms another hate group, which in turn exacerbates the problem. The best tool all of us can use against radical Islam is to stay informed, and to notify others of the dangers of the radical situation and any biases along the way.

It is important to note that not all Muslims are radicals. Daniel Pipes, of the Middle East Forum, points out that according to his estimate, only 10% of Muslims are radical. This is still a large figure, but we need to realize that the other 90% do not subscribe to a radical ideology of hate.
